Sixteen Year Old Drowns In Clark Co. Pond

On June 20, 2009 at approximately 10:25pm, the body of Michael L. Hobb, age 16, was discovered by Keokuk Volunteer Emergency Corps, in a small pond at RR1 Box 72, Canton, Missouri, located in the south/central area of Clark County.

Ed Wilson, Coroner of Clark County, pronounced Mr. Hobb, to be deceased at approximately 10:28pm.

After an investigation by the Clark County Sheriff's Office the incident was classified as an accidental death. It has been determined that Mr. Hobb was a non-swimmer, who attempted to swim across the pond, using a small log as a floatation device, but lost contact with the log and was unable to reach shore.

The parents, Elmer Hobb and Sandra Hobb, were present at the scene, and even through they suffered tragic loss, they were very appreciative for the efforts and assistance by all agencies. These agencies included, Clark County Ambulance, Clark County Search and Rescue, Keokuk Volunteer Emergency Corps, Clark County Coroner's Office, and the Clark County Sheriff's Office.

"Our heart felt condolences go out to the entire Hobb family."

Sincerely,

Paul R. Gaudette, Clark County Sheriff
