Sarah J. Owings

   Sarah J. Owings, 79, of Kirksville, Missouri passed away on Friday, November 13, 2009 at the Twin Pines Adult Care Center. The daughter of Vera Sylvia Stutz, she was born on November 29, 1929 in Kahoka, MO. She grew up in Clark County and attended Diamond Elementary School and later graduated from Kahoka High School in 1947.

   On December 29, 1948 she was united in marriage to Marvin Owings at Kahoka. After living in Benton Harbor, Michigan for a period of time, they moved to the Kirksville area in 1966. Sarah worked in housekeeping at Truman State University until she retired. She loved being with her family, and found enjoyment in putting jigsaw puzzles together and playing bingo.

   Sarah is survived by her three sons, Ernest Owings, of Quincy, IL; Floyd Owings and wife, Julia of Brashear, MO; and Robert Owings of Kirksville; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Owings and Philip Owings and his fiancé, Amy Dunlap, and her children, Sara and Keirsten Fry; two great grandchildren, Ethan Owings and Chloe Owings, and several cousins.

   She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Marvin on July 8, 2002.

   Funeral services were held at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Kirksville. The Reverend Charles Jackson officiated at the services with burial in Morelock Cemetery in northwest Adair County, Missouri.

   The family suggests memorials be made to Twin Pines Christmas Fund or the American Diabetes Association.
