Knox County Lands Two On All District Baseball Team

Knox County senior Caleb Shubert and junior Daniel McMahon have been named to the 2007 Class 1, District 11 Baseball Team.
The Eagles lost to eventual champion Canton in the last inning of the district championship game. Canton was edged by Cairo by a 3-2 margin in the Class 1 Sectional round.
Caleb Shubert and Daniel McMahon were previously named to the 2007 Tri-Rivers All Conference Baseball First Team.
Daniel McMahon batted .619 with 13 runs scored and 14 RBI’s in only 42 at bats. Daniel McMahon’s batting average would have been a third best single season MSHSAA baseball record. The record book requires a minimum of 45 at bats.
The Eagles finished 6-8 overall in a rain soaked spring season. Caleb Shubert batted .304 with six RBI’s and 14 stolen bases. The Eagles’ final pitching stats were very impressive as well.
Daniel McMahon finished with a 4-4 record with 46 strikeouts in 55 2/3 innings pitched. Opponents batted .194 against Daniel McMahon who sported a 2.76 earned run average.
Caleb Shubert fielded .931 with only two errors in 29 chances as an infielder. Shubert struck out 19 batters in 17 innings pitched with a .239 opponent batting average. KCHS freshman Cody Morgenstern (2-1) fanned 15 batters in 18 2/3 innings pitched with a 3.00 ERA. Opponents batted only .100 in an injury shorten season.
Canton coach Seth Minter was the district coach of the year. Canton pitcher Josh Fellinger was the District 11 MVP.
Rounding out the All District 11 baseball team were freshman Jake Heisler and sophomore Curtiss Bunch of LaPlata.
Atlanta seniors Josie Garnett and Justin Miller along with Canton juniors Ethan Baker and Josh Fellinger. Senior Tyler Otto and freshman Brad Craigmyle represented North Shelby.
