GLADYS M. ADKINS
Gladys Mareuritte Adkins, 86, of Montrose, Iowa, died on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at the Montrose Health Center.
She was born on November 22, 1920, in rural Hurdland, Missouri, to William Gustave and Mary Etta Stephens Little.
On august 9, 1947 she married Johnnie Lee Adkins in LaBelle, Missouri.
The couple owned and operated J & G Café in Montrose during the 1960’s and 1970’s. When Gladys retired, she was a dining room hostess for the Ft. Madison Holiday Inn.
She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic church in Montrose.
Gladys loved to cook, bake, garden and pick strawberries, and as a hobby, she collected cookie jars. Her biggest enjoyment was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Johnnie Lee Adkins, Sr. of Montrose, IA; four sons, David and wife Mary Adkins of Donnellson, IA, Randall and wife Sue McCarty of Montrose, IA, Johnnie Lee and wife Cindy Adkins Jr. of Donnellson, IA, and Stephen and wife Carol McCarty of Keystone Heights, FL; one daughter, Tonya Adkins of Keokuk; twelve grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded by her parents, two brothers- Ellis Little and Marvin “Bud” Little, and two sisters- Hallie Kiesow and Thelma Hall.
Services were Monday in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Montrose, with the Rev. Thomas Parlette officiating. Burial was in the Montrose Cemetery.
