Canton Sneaks Past Lady Cougars

Canton Sneaks Past

Lady Cougars

The Canton Lady Tigers take advantage of a Lady Cougars error and a controversial call by the umpire to shutout the Lady Cougars and grab a 3-0 win.  The loss drops the Lady Cougars record to 3-2 on the season.

The Lady Tigers scored first thanks to a one out walk to Jessie Logsdon.  Logsdon moved up to second on an error by Jessica Murfin and later scored on a single by Kristyn Caldwell.  The score remand 1-0 until the sixth inning when the Lady Tigers pushed across two more runs thanks to a controversial call by the home plate umpire, who forgot the situation and called a runner safe thinking it was a tag play instead of a force out.  That call seemed to rattle the Lady Cougars for a moment as Caldwell then hit a grounder to third that was booted by Adrienn Myers allowing the third Lady Tigers run to score. After Coach Scifres called time out and met with his team the Lady Cougars settled down and got out of the inning with out allowing another run.  The Lady Cougars best chance to score came in the third and sixth innings when they left runners on second and third both innings.  “We had chances to push runners across but we just couldn’t get a big hit,” Coach Scifres said.

Samantha Murfin lead the Lady Cougars with two hits.  Jessica Murfin took the loss making her record 2-2.  She gave up three runs, two of which were unearned, on six hits, while striking out six, and walking two.  Kristyn Caldwell got the win for Canton. She allowed no runs on four hits, while striking out seven, and walking two.  Caldwell led the Lady Tigers with two hits.
