Blunt Administration Refuses to Say if Victim of
Ed Martin’s Tirade was Fired
Jefferson City, MO — The Blunt administration today is refusing to say if state employee Jim Torres was fired after alerting Gov. Blunt to what Torres called a demeaning “table-thumping tirade” by Blunt Chief of Staff Ed Martin.
According to the Associated Press, state officials have “declined to say whether Torres resigned voluntarily or was asked to do so” after writing Gov. Blunt a letter taking offense to Martin’s comments about “a bunch of Mexicans.”
“Only in the Blunt administration does the person offended by racially insensitive remarks lose their job, not the Blunt aide making the remarks,” said Jack Cardetti, Missouri Democratic Party. “Matt Blunt and Ed Martin owe Jim Torres and the rest of Missouri some answers.”
Yesterday community leaders called for Gov. Blunt to fire Martin after revelations that he made racially offensive remarks about “a bunch of Mexicans,” at a MHDC meeting last month.
