Highland Takes Third At Louisiana Tournament

   Winfield (8-1) allowed only two runs on the way to winning the championship of the 2007 Louisiana Softball Invitational Tournament. Megan Kerr had two RBI’s and Jessica Bals hit a Warrior home run during a 4-0 win over Mark Twain (8-5) in the championship game. Brittany Sitton struck out 11 Tiger batters. Winfield displayed a sound fundamental game throughout the tournament.

   Highland (10-4) defeated the Centralia JV by an 11-0 score in the first round. Winfield topped the Lady Cougars 2-0 during the semi-final round. Highland topped South Shelby (6-6-1) by a 2-1 margin in the third place game.

   Monroe City defeated Louisiana by a 9-2 final score in the fifth place game. First round results included third seeded Winfield defeating Louisiana 3-2. South Shelby edged Monroe City 4-3 in eight innings. Top seeded Mark Twain blanked North Callaway’s JV 11-0.

   Mark Twain advanced to the championship game, besting South Shelby 4-1.
