Lady Eagles Beaten At Putnam County

   Putnam County (15-2, 4-0 in the conference) grabbed a 14-0 lead after three innings of a September 18 Tri-Rivers Conference softball contest at Unionville. The Lady Eagles (6-7, 2-3) battled back scoring eight runs off standout hurler Stacy Hines after rain started falling in the fourth inning.

   Katie Steele’s triple keyed a three run Putnam County sixth inning, putting the Lady Midgets on the winning side of an 18-8 decision.  Putnam Count manufactured four runs during the first inning. At least three KCHS errors played a part in the opening inning.

   Putnam County pushed nine runs across the plate in the third inning. Hillary Mason had a two run Lady Midget triple and Jamie Mullenix belted a two run double highlighting the PC third. Knox County was charged with three more errors during the third inning.

   Brittany Miller singled and later scored the first Knox County run in the fourth inning. Four year starter Brittany Casady doubled and scored the 15th Lady Midget run on a passed ball in the bottom of the fourth inning.

   The home team led 15-1 when play was halted due to lightning. “We just didn’t come out ready to play right off the bat,” said Knox County coach Stephanie Crawford.

   “We decided to play after the delay and scored seven runs. I was proud of the girls for fighting back,” said Crawford.

   Putnam County’s normally reliable defense was charged with three unofficial errors during a six run fifth inning. Jordin Luthenauer singled with one down in the KCHS fifth. Chelsea Bisch reached on an error.

   Myra Parrish drew a walk loading the bases. Brittany Miller slammed a two run double. Lorrie Peters followed with an RBI double. Amanda Woods drove two more Lady Eagles home with a double, pulling Knox County within a 15-7 deficit.

   The Lady Eagles set Putnam County down in order during the bottom of the fifth. Brittany Miller lit the fuse for another KCHS run with a two out sixth inning hit. Lorrie Peters and Hannah Dale followed with hits. Putnam County was charged with their fifth error of the contest , helping Brittany Miller score Knox County’s eighth run.

   Jamie Mullenix drove home the eventual game winning run for Putnam County. The Lady Midgets scored 18 runs on nine hits and five errors. Stacy Hines struck out eight batters in six innings for the win. Katie Steele was 3-4 with two runs scored. Brittany Casady scored four Putnam County runs.

   Knox County scored eight runs on eight hits. Brittany Miller struck out five batters while issuing ten walks with two hit batsmen in 5 1/3 innings pitched.

   Brittany Miller went 3-4 at bat with three runs scored. Lorrie Peters was 2-4 at the dish with a run scored and another driven in. Amanda Woods and Brittany Miller had two runs batted in each.
