Dortha M. Bradney

   Dortha Mae Bradney, 86 of Columbus, KS died at 2:30pm, Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at Medicalodge of Columbus.

   Dortha was born May 19, 1921 in Edina, MO to John Alexander and Margaret Elizabeth “Maggie” (Thacker) Stutsman, Sr. Dortha attended schools in Edina, MO, graduating from Edina High School with the class of 1939.

   On September 12, 1941 in Hannibal, MO, she married Calvin Harvey Bradney, Sr. Following his discharge from the United States Army Air Force in 1946, she and Mr. Bradney with their young son, Calvin Harvey Bradney, Jr., moved to Columbus, KS.

   Prior to that she worked assisting Dr. Gibson M.D. in Edina, MO.

   For many years Dortha was active in the Parent Teacher Organization and the Child Study Club. She was an accomplished seamstress winning a “Sewing with Wool” award. Using her sewing talents she made many of the costumes for the grade school children’s plays.

   She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Columbus, KS.

   While living in Columbus, she made many friends working at Laizure’s Western Wear Shop, Hamm’s Convenience Store, The Pitt Stop, and Hale’s Gasoline and Convenience Store.    

   Survivors include her son Calvin Harvey Bradney, Jr. and his wife Marcia Jean (Churchward) Bradney of Columbus, KS; grandson Gregg Allen Bradney of Hiawatha, KS, whom was always a source of her pride and affection. Sister, Mrs. Launce Mustoe (Rebecca Marguerite “Betsy” Stutsman) of Edina, MO, brother John Alexander “Chubb” Stutsman, Jr. and his wife Lois of Florissant, MO; along with many treasured nieces and nephews.

   Dortha was preceded in death by her parents; brother Albert Newton “Newt” Stutsman; sisters Marie Catherine (Stutsman) Sharp and Mary Ruth (Stutsman) Norton.

   Funeral services were 10:00am, Saturday, November 10, 2007 at Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 611 S. East Ave in Columbus, KS with Rev. Dennis Johnson officiating. Following the services her body will be taken to the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Friday at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home. Friends may call the funeral home after 3pm on Friday. Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Monday, November 12, 2007 at Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, 408 East Morgan, Edina, MO. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Sunday at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Linville Cemetery in Edina, MO.
