Lady Tigers Take Novinger Championship. Brashear; Boys Second To LaPlata

Brashear (4-1) was able to keep the ball out of LaPlata standout Justine Bane’s hands while Hailee Kelsey scored a game high 13 points along with ten rebounds, leading the Lady Tigers to the championship of the 2007 Novinger Tournament. Christina Scudder scored ten points and pulled down seven rebounds in a 39-32 BHS title game win.
It was the Bulldogs’ turning up the defense during the boys’ championship contest. LaPlata limited Brashear (4-1) scoring chances and came away with a 55-42 win. The boys’ championship game was tied at 22 going into halftime, but the Bulldogs outscored Brashear 34-20 during the second half.
The weather delayed tournament trophy night was held on December 5. Scotland County won both third place trophy, besting Novinger in both brackets. The Tiger boys took a 66-49 win while Scotland County claimed the girls’ third place award with a 68-43 victory.
Green City took the girls’ consolation championship from Bevier by a 50-46 final score. Milan topped Grundy County 34-23 for the girls’ seventh place award.
Bevier bested Milan 70-56 for the boys’ consolation championship. Green City downed Grundy County 49-40 for boys’ seventh place.
