Tigers Pounce On Mustangs

   Brashear (6-1) overcame an early 10-2 Marion County lead and took a 58-44 non-conference boys’ basketball victory at Philadelphia. The December 17, 2007 contest saw the Tigers outscore their hosts 33-17 in the second half.

   Marion County took advantage of their strong start and led 15-9 after eight minutes of basketball. Justin Hazen pumped in 13 of the Tigers’ 16 second quarter points, helping the Tigers trim the Marion County lead to 27-25 at intermission.

   Balanced team scoring and strong defense propelled the Tigers to a 16-6 third quarter run. Brashear led 41-33 after three quarters. The Tigers were lights out at the free throw line, converting 18 of 20 on the night. Brashear was 11-12 at the charity stripe in the fourth quarter.

   Marion County was 8-15 at the charity stripe on the night. Free throw shooting was one of the major differences in the contest. The home team converted only three of nine from the charity stripe in the fourth quarter. Brashear outscored Marion County 17-11 during the last eight minutes, and claimed the 58-44 win.

   Justin Hazen scored a season, and game high 20 points for Brashear. Kale Watson pumped in 14 Tiger points. Jacob Shipman fired in seven Brashear points. Ryan Ferdig came off the bench and contributed six points.

   Kiley Watson scored four points and Matt Thomas tossed in three points. Justin Tobias led Marion County with 12 points. Ryan Sharpe was in double figures with ten Mustang points.
