Brashear jumped out to an early 18-9 lead during a January 4, 2008 non-conference varsity boys contest at Schuyler County (4-3) and went on to a 53-45 victory. The Tigers (8-1) limited Ram standout Jacob Winkler to nine points on the night.
The home standing Rams trimmed the Tiger lead back to 28-20 at the half. Greg Buckallew scored ten of his team leading 12 Schuyler County points during the third quarter. Brashear outscored the Rams 16-14 in the third quarter and led 44-34 entering the final period of play.
Jesse Wheeler and Jacob Winkler tossed in Ram three pointers during the fourth quarter. Brashear sank five of seven free throws in the last eight minutes and won by a 53-45 margin.
Trae Treasure led three Tigers in double figures with 18 points. Kale Watson scored 13 points and Kiley Watson tallied 12 BHS points. Justin Hazen scored eight points and Matt Thomas added two Brashear points.
Schuyler County harmed their chances for victory with a 3-7 performance at the free throw line. Brashear sank seven of 11 charity tosses on the night. The Tigers have two key conference match ups this week.
Defending Tri-County boys’ champion LaPlata brings an unbeaten record to Brashear on January 7. Bevier travels to Brashear for another TCC match up on Friday, January 11.
