LaPlata cracked off a 17-8 second quarter run and went on to a 55-46 conference win at Brashear. The rescheduled contest was held January 7, 2008. The Bulldogs (8-0, ranked sixth in Missouri boys Class 1) sank 15 of 21 free throw attempts during the contest.

The defending Class 1 boys’ third place Bulldogs were able to play defense without fouling, limiting Brashear (8-2, 2-1 in the conference) to a pair of made free throws in four trys.

LaPlata held a 10-9 edge after one quarter of basketball. Brashear was able to pull within five points during the second quarter. Trae Treasure scored a game high 24 Tiger points. Treasure tallied all but four of Brashear’s 24 points during the second and third quarters.

The Bulldogs closed the second quarter well and led 27-17 at intermission. The Tigers battled back within a 47-42 deficit with two minutes to play in the game. LaPlata hit their free throws and pulled away to the nine point victory.

“We didn’t do something with the basketball and take advantage of their mistakes,” said Brashear coach Sara Williams. “They crashed the boards hard. They pressed us early in the game and we didn’t handle it very well. We settled in and played a pretty good game overall.”

The Bulldogs pulled down 13 offensive rebounds, and held a 27-17 unofficial rebound advantage at the close of the contest. Brashear turned the ball over 20 times compared to 15 for LaPlata.

Mike Eitel and Dusty Baker led the Bulldogs with 12 points each. Jordan Smith tossed in 11 LaPlata points. Jesse Schraeder and Taylor Wheeler scored eight LaPlata points each.

Kiley Watson backed up Trae Treasure’s 24 points with seven. Kale Watson scored six BHS points. Matt Thomas scored four Tiger points. Ryan Ferdig scored three points and Justin Hazen added two Brashear markers.
