Brashear Girls Win First Round Match

   Hailee Kelsey led all scorers with 16 points and Christina Scudder added 15, leading Brashear (8-4) to a 50-45 win over an improved Atlanta team in first round North Shelby Tournament action. The conference rivals battled to a near first half draw. Brashear led by a field goal at the half.

   Both teams lit up the scoreboard for 18 points during the third quarter. The Lady Tigers took a slim 39-37 lead at the three quarter pole. Second seeded Brashear sank nine fourth quarter free throws securing their championship semi-final berth.

   Seniors Hailee Kelsey and Christina Scudder were in double digits in the scoring and rebound categories. Scudder scored 15 Brashear points. Caroline Slavin stepped up with eight BHS points. Emily Ladwig scored three points and Abby McKim added two Brashear points.

   A major difference in the game came at the charity stripe. The Lady Tigers went 18-26 from the free throw line while seventh seeded Atlanta (4-7) was 7-12 at the line. Nicole Sloan led Atlanta with 13 points. Beth Voss was in double figures with 11 points.
