Alma M. Scearce

   Alma Maxine Scearce, age 90, of Edina, Missouri, died Wednesday, January 23, 2008, at the Knox County Nursing Home.

She was born August 11, 1917, in Knox County, Missouri, the daughter of Ira Albert and Mona Myrtle Pruett Miller.  

   On January 3, 1934, at Edina, Missouri she was united to William Dudley Scearce and he preceded her in death on December 10, 1968. Also preceding her in death were her parents, two sons, William Richard Scearce and Robert Wayne Scearce, one stepson William Dudley Scearce Jr., and two sisters, Mildred L. Boswell and Mildred Elizabeth Aucutt.

   Surviving are three children, James Harry Scearce and wife Lavona of Kirksville, Missouri, Cynthia Mildred Stephens and husband bill of Jefferson City, Missouri and Sam Frank Scearce and wife Janet of Millstadt, Illinois; nine grandchildren, Christopher Scearce (Tammy), J. Mark Scearce (Leda), Mike Scearce (Anne), Chad Stotler (Jennifer), Kim Dulle (Kurt),

Mary Lynn Wilburn, Steven Scearce (Rhoda), Gary Scearce ( Paula), Jeffery Scearce  (Janice); two step grandchildren, several great grandchildren, one niece Marjorie Hamby of Austin, Texas and several cousins.

   Mrs. Scearce was raised in Knox County where she received her education.  She was employed for nine years with Sandknops Clothing in Edina, Missouri, managed a restaurant for one year, worked for Green Thumb for two years and sold Avon for several years.

   Maxine was a member of the First Christian church in Edina, Missouri, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Matilda chapter # 411 of Edina, past member of Edina business Women’s Club and past member of Liberty Extension Club.  

Maxine enjoyed sewing and selling doll clothes and cooking.

   Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 26, 2008, at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.  Dr. Dale Jorgenson and Reverend Dewayne Wellborn officiated the services. Burial was in the Greensburg Cemetery.  Casket bearers were Terry Callahan, Darrell Simmons, Chris Harrison, Mike McGinnis, Mac Early and Chris Scearce. Honorary bearers were Mary Delaney, Frances Delaney, Annie Fisher, Janice McGinnis, Roberta Head.
