ROBERTA BEVILL

   Roberta Bevill, age 94, of LaBelle, Missouri died Wednesday, February 20, 2008 in the LaBelle Manor Care Center of LaBelle.

   She was born October 22, 1913 in Lewis County, Missouri, the daughter of Everet C. and Lula Stone Dawson.

   Roberta was a graduate of Steffenville High School and Northeast Missouri Teachers College of Kirksville, Missouri, and taught six years in two rural schools near Canton, Missouri.

   On March 3, 1940 in Kahoka, Missouri she married Samuel Estel Bevill and he survives of LaBelle.

   Also surviving are a son, Terry Bevill, and wife, Laurel, of Charlotte, North Carolina; one granddaughter, Stephanie Bevill; one grandson, Aaron Bevill; one brother, Francis “Nig” Dawson and wife, Pauline Dawson, of Steffenville, Missouri; one sister-in-law, Lucille Sharpe, of Quincy, Illinois and several nieces and nephews.

   She taught elementary school nine years in Missouri and 22 years in Illinois and was a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority.  While living in Peoria, Illinois she was a member of the Glen Oak Christian Church, where she taught the kindergarten Sunday school class.  In 1972, she and her husband retired and moved to LaBelle to care for her parents.

   After moving to LaBelle she joined the First Christian Church and served as Auxiliary President of the LaBelle American Legion Post #200 for 25 years.

   During their retirement, Sam and Roberta spent their winters in Arizona, Texas and Florida.  Since 2003 they have lived in the LaBelle Senior Housing.

   Roberta was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters.

    Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 23, 2008 in the Coder Funeral Chapel with Reverend Sandy Browning officiating.  Burial was in the LaBelle Cemetery.
