KICK-FM Radio to host 27th Annual
Colgate Country Showdown

The “Colgate Country Showdown” is returning to Quincy and 97.9 KICK-FM Radio has been selected again to host the 27th annual edition of America’s Largest Country Music Talent Search and radio promotion. The KICK-FM Colgate Country Showdown will be held at Quincy’s Upper Moorman Park on Saturday, June 14th, 2008. Over $200,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded in Colgate Country Showdowns nationwide along with a Grand Prize of $100,000 to the National Winner at the televised National Final Special.

The “Colgate Country Showdown” is designed to find the most promising country music talent in America, giving these performers a chance to launch their professional careers. Thousands of aspiring artists compete annually for the Country Showdown title.

The road to stardom begins each spring with hometown talent contests sponsored by over five hundred radio stations across the country. Local winners advance to one of over forty state contests where the prizes include $1,000 in cash and the opportunity to compete at one of the six regional Country Showdown contests in the fall. Winners at the regional level are flown expense-paid to the National Final where they will compete for the Grand Prize of $100,000 and the coveted National Title.

“The Colgate Country Showdown is one of the most anticipated events in country music,” said Jeff Asmussen, KICK-FM General Sales Manager. “It is an exciting community event which not only promotes a greater appreciation of country music, but provides aspiring artists from our area an opportunity for state, regional, and national exposure. It’s where new stars are born. The next national winner of the Colgate Country Showdown could be from our area.”

The Colgate Country Showdown is open to vocal and/or instrumental performers, individuals or groups with up to seven members, who have not performed on a record listed in the national record charts of Billboard, Radio and Records, or The Gavin Report within eighteen months preceding local competition. There is a $10 entry fee and all contestants must begin their competition by performing at a Country Showdown contest produced by participating country music radio stations. Information is also available online at www.colgatecountryshowdown.com.

A uniform judging system on all levels of the competition ensures fairness. Entry forms are available now at the following sponsor locations: Hy-Vee Broadway or Harrison locations, Refreshment Services – Pepsi, Boyer Boot & Shoe Repair and the Quincy Park District Office, all in Quincy, Hannibal Meat Market & Catering Company in Hannibal or by calling KICK-FM at (217) 223-5292. Entries must be received no later than May 15th.
