Betty Jo Parrish, age 80, of Edina, Missouri, died Friday, August 15, 2008, in the Knox County Nursing Home at Edina, Missouri.
She was born April 27, 1928, at Rutledge, Missouri the daughter of Austin N. “Bud” Longfellow and Pinkie Bonnie “Shorty” Freeman.
On November 1, 1947, at Memphis, Missouri she was united in marriage to Francis Parrish and had celebrated their 60th anniversary on November 1, 2007.
Surviving is her husband Francis of Edina, Missouri, one son David F. Parrish and wife Tina of Quincy, Illinois, one grandson, Shawn D. Parrish, one great grandson, Dilan Parrish, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Betty Jo was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Dallas F. Miller, Sr. and one sister, Elva F. Pruett.
Betty Jo was born at Rutledge, Missouri, where she attended grade school and graduated from Rutledge High School.
Betty Jo was employed at the Post Office, later as a Dental Assistant to Dr. N.R. Hatfield of Edina, Missouri and Dr. Steve Barber in Kirksville, Missouri. Betty Jo is a 60 yr. member of Rutledge Order of the Eastern Star Chapter # 343, where she had served as Grand Representative of New Hampshire 1978 – 1980, a District Deputy Grand matron of the 1st District in 1981 and Grand Officer in 1982.
After their retirement she and her husband bought a home on Lake Thunderhead near Unionville, Missouri, where they enjoyed boating and golf. She and her husband spent several years traveling in their motor home to Arizona, Florida and Texas during the winter months. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Edina, Missouri. She enjoyed dancing, boating, golf, traveling and spending time with her family and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 17, 2008, at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri. The Reverend Dewayne Wellborn officiated the services. Burial was in the Pauline Cemetery at Rutledge, Missouri. Music was provided by, Burt Shackleton.
Visitation was held Saturday, August 16, 2008, at 4 p.m. with the family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.
Eastern Star services were held Saturday evening at 7 p.m. conducted by Rutledge O.E.S. chapter # 343.
