Velva Waneta Lunsford, 94, of Plattsburg, MO, formerly of Downing died Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, MO.
She was born the daughter of Jake and Ida (Wimp) Gordy on January 9, 1914 in Davis County, Iowa.
Velva married Wallace Lunsford on December 25, 1932 at Bloomfield, Iowa. He preceded her in death on July 30, 1966.
She was a piano player. She was a member of Barker United Methodist Church when she was a child.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three sisters.
She is survived by her son, Harold and wife Joan Lunsford of Lathrop, MO; a sister, Inez Dougherty of Sioux City, Iowa; a brother, Russell Gordy of Mt. Sterling, Iowa; two grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, December 20, 2008 at the Gerth Funeral Chapel in Memphis, with Carolyn Goyer, pastor of the Downing United Methodist Church officiating. Dan Lunsford, Royce Jeffries, Dick Middleton, John Cook and Jack Sumption served as pallbearers. Burial was in the Downing Cemetery.
