Leona Mae Stehl
Leona Mae Wilson Stehl, 101, of Wayland, Missouri, died Friday, February 13, 2009 at the Clark County Nursing Home in Kahoka, Missouri.
She was born February 13, 1908, in Shelby County, Missouri, the daughter of Jodie W. and Laura Craigmyle Wilson. On June 22, 1929, she married Royal Nelson Stehl. He preceded her in death on February 14, 1973.
Leona and her husband Royal owned and operated the gas and grocery store in St. Francisville, Missouri for about twelve years. It was a great place for people to linger for a while and catch up on the town gossip.
After Royal’s death she was a house mother at Culver Stockton College in Canton, Missouri for the AZD house for four years.
She loves to crochet, embroider and keep up on current events. She was a very social lady and enjoyed company from everyone. Leona was a founding member of the Clematis Garden Club.
Leona had witnessed many things and had experienced many life experiences in her years.
She is survived by three nieces, Elaine Nagel and her husband John of Edina, MO, Louise Bachman of Macon, MO, and Jeanie Dennis and her husband Orlando of Quincy, IL, two nephews, Ronald Hinman of Quincy, IL, and Waymond Parsons of Shelbina, MO, sister in law, Wilma Deihl and her husband Leo of Keokuk, IA, very close special friends, Cindy Best and her husband Mark of Kahoka, MO and Elenora Hudson of Wayland, MO, numerous great nieces and nephews and cousins.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, and a half sister, Beulah Parsons and her husband Brode.
Graveside services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Sand Cemetery in St. Francisville, MO with Pastor Dan Deatrick officiating.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials may be made to the Wayland Senior Housing in Wayland, Missouri.
The Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka is in charge of arrangements.
