LELA M. GOLDEN

Lela “Madeline” Golden, age 86, of Rutledge, Missouri, died Monday, September 28, 2009, at the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis, Missouri after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s.
She was born on July 4, 1923, at Rutledge, Missouri, the daughter of Raymond Ray and Olive Elizabeth Carter Arehart.
On June 16, 1946, at Rutledge, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Delbert Shelton “Shelt” Golden. They were blessed with two daughters, Faye Linn and Marilyn. They spent their entire married life on a farm south of Rutledge, Missouri.
She was a graduate of Rutledge High School; a graduate of Cosmetology school, and for several years owned and operated her own beauty shop in Knox City, Missouri. During the war she worked at the ammunition plant in Lake City, Missouri. When the plant closed, she worked at the Schaeffer Pen Company in Ft. Madison, Iowa.
Madeline was a Christian having accepted Christ at an early age. She was a Sunday School teacher, 4-H Leader, Bible School Superintendent, frequently in charge of Bible School refreshments, a volunteer at Camp Leeper and was a member of the Rutledge Booster Club.
Madeline enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing, embroidering and was an excellent cook. She was always available and willing to lend a helping hand.
Madeline was preceded in death by her parents, one sister Verona Dickinson, three brothers, Wallace, Wayne and Gordon Arehart, and a grandson Rodney.
Survivors include her husband Shelt Golden of Rutledge, Missouri, Faye Graham of Centerville, Iowa, Marilyn Welsh and husband Tim of Richfield, Minnesota, three grandsons, Doug Graham and wife Sarah of Unionville, Iowa, Craig Graham of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Terry Schreck of Lenexa, Kansas, two great-grandsons Tristan and Connor Graham, two sisters LaVern Hatfield of Wyaconda, Missouri and Irva Clark of Oak Grove, Missouri, nieces, nephews, special daughter Teri Engelbrecht, friends Mark and Mary Martin and numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held 10 a.m. Thursday, October 1, 2009, at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri. Brother Steve Jarvis officiated the services. Burial was in the Pauline Cemetery at Rutledge, Missouri.
Casket bearers were Kenny Golden, Kevin Skinner, Tommy Riebel, Steve Golden, Lonnie Golden and David Golden.
