FORREST A. SMITH

Forrest Addison Smith “Smitty” age 98 died October 3, 2009. Forrest was born May 13, 1911 and grew up on a farm in Novelty, Missouri and came to California in 1929.Forrest “Smitty” moved to Oildale in 1941 and resided there until his death on Saturday, October 3, 2009.
Forrest was married to Irene May Smith (Kleist) for 40 years. Irene preceded Forrest in death in 1987. Forrest worked for the Shell Oil Company for 36 years until his retirement in 1972. Forrest married Leta Faye Silas on August 25, 2003, and they have spent a wonderful and loving time for the remainder of his life. Forrest and Faye have enjoyed lunches at the Rasmussen Senior Center where they made many friends. Forrest “Smitty” was well known for telling stories of experiences in his long life.
Survivors include his wife, Leta Fay; his son Larry Smith and wife Sheila; Leta’s children, Carolyn, Mike, Margaret and Rosie; grandchildren, Patrick Smith of Minneapolis, MN, Michael Smith, SLC, UT, Cinde Smith (Wilson), Heather Smith (Lee); Great grandchildren, Isaac Addison, Toren, Shantel, Sharry, Shawn, Ben, Chris; first cousin, Audrey, her son, Randy and wife Amy, and many nephews and nieces in Missouri, including Kim Smith of Edina.
He was preceded in death by wife, Irene M. Smith; mother and father; two brothers, Richard and Burdette; Irene’s two daughters, Donna and JoAnn.
Viewing was Wednesday, October 7th, 1-8 p.m. and Thursday, October 8th, 8:30-9:30 a.m., at Mish Funeral Home, 120 Minner Ave.; with the memorial service on Thursday, October 8th, 10:010a.m., also at Mish.
In lieu of flowers, if you wish, a donation to the American Cancer Society would follow Forrest’s wishes.
