Richard Lee (Rick) Parton, 57, of Memphis, Missouri, died Sunday evening, April 18, 2010 at his home in rural Scotland County.

He was born December 25, 1952, at Kirksville, Missouri to Lloyd Richard and Betty Evelyn Baker Parton.

He attended Knox County High School and graduated with the class of 1970.

Rick worked with the Sante Fe Railroad until he became disabled due to an injury received during the floods of 1993. He worked in plumbing construction, hauled propane and as a truck driver.

He married Janie Shelley on November 8, 1980, in Memphis, Missouri.

Rick loved the outdoors, especially being in the timber. Some of his favorite pastimes were cutting wood and mowing. He enjoyed watching westerns with his grandson. He enjoyed giving rides in his dune buggy to young and old. He experienced great delight in making children happy and seeing their eyes light up and this was especially evidenced in his joy when handing out treats to Amish children. It can be said, overall, that Rick truly loved people.

He is survived by his wife, Janie, of Memphis; two daughters: Heather Dawn Gjorgjievski and her husband, Dejan, of Wildwood, Missouri; Mindy Lee Parton of Pacific, Missouri; his parents, Lloyd and Betty Parton, of Edina, Missouri; and three grandchildren: Makai Parton, Aiden Gjorgjievski and Zoey Gjorgjievski. Other survivors include a brother, Darrell Parton and his wife, Sharon, of Troy, Illinois; a sister, Bonnie Rowland and her husband, Vance, of Hurdland, Missouri and many, many friends.

He was preceded in death by two brothers: David Parton and Dennis Parton.

Visitation, with the family present to greet relatives and friends, was held Friday evening, April 23, 2010 from 5 until 7 P.M. at the Memphis Funeral Home followed by a memorial service at 7 P.M. The service was officiated by Greg Shelley, Chris Shelley and Sherry Lantz. Special prayers were offered by Rick’s daughters, Heather Gjorgjievski and Mindy Parton.
