DONALD L. STEVENSON

Donald L. Stevenson, 81, of Cameron, Missouri, died Saturday, October 23, 2010 at Cameron Medical Center. He was born on March 21, 1929 in Adrian, IL to Frank and Cecelia Schmitz Stevenson. On March 29, 1952 he married Shirley Bagley at Sacred Heart Church in Fort Madison, IA. He served his country as a Navy Corpsman in the U.S. Navy from December 1951 to January 1956. After his military service he began a farming career and continued to work on his farm near Edina, MO until his illness and move to the Missouri Veteran’s Home in Cameron, Missouri. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus in Edina, MO.


Survivors include Shirley Stevenson, Kansas City, MO; three daughters, Sharon King of St. Charles, MO, Pat White and husband, Tony of Weatherby Lake, MO, and Kathy Turpin and husband, Rick of Weatherby Lake, MO; three sons, Brian Stevenson and wife, Doris of Weatherby, Lake, MO, Gary Stevenson and wife, Janet, of Memphis, TN, and Paul Stevenson and wife, Michelle of Weatherby Lake, MO; eleven grandchildren, Meredith Stevenson of Charleston, VA, Jason King of St. Louis, MO, Matthew Stevenson and wife Uyen of Kansas City, MO, Jennifer Turpin of Cary, NC, Andrew Turpin of Columbia, MO, Lesley, Paul and Jack Stevenson of Memphis, TN and Zach, Delaney and Patrick Stevenson of Weatherby Lake, MO; four brothers, Robert Stevenson and wife, Emmy of Burnside, IL, Albert Stevenson of Ft. Madison, IA, Richard Stevenson and wife Nancy of Ft. Myers, FL, and Jim Stevenson of Quincy, IL; one sister, Sara Foster and husband Richard of Ft. Myers, FL; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister (Betty) and twin siblings (Wilma and Wilda) and one grandson (Graham) at birth.


Funeral Mass was Friday, October 29, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Nauvoo, IL. Father Mike Coleman and Father Tom Szydlik officiated. Casket bearers were Jason King, Matthew Stevenson, Andrew Turpin, Zack Stevenson, Paul R. Stevenson, Albert Stevenson, and Richard Stevenson. Honorary casket bearers were Meredith Stevenson, Jennifer Turpin, Lesley Stevenson, Delaney Stevenson, Jack Stevenson, and Patrick Stevenson. Burial was in Thornber Cemetery in Powellton, IL. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to the Cameron Veterans Home in Don’s name.
