Dennis Samuel Peterson, 48, of Gorin, died Sunday evening, January 23, 2011 at his home in Gorin.

He was born the son of Samuel Peterson and Dorothy Boyd on September 26, 1962 in Kirksville.

He attended Scotland County grade school and high school in Memphis.

Dennis worked at Shannan’s Pallet Mill in Granger, Doubet’s Pallet Mill in Arbela and as a CNA at various nursing homes in the community.

He married the former Brenda Darland on July 31, 1983 and they had two sons, Justin Dale Peterson and Dennis Samuel Peterson, Jr.

In June 1993, he married the former Twilee Cooper. This marriage brought a step daughter, Tyshaynna into the family. Dennis and Twilee then had a son, Christopher Scott Peterson.

In 1996, Dennis married Diane Kirk. This brought stepchildren Harvey, Edith and Carey into the family. Dennis and Diane later moved to Smackover, Arkansas, where he worked at a pipe factory. Dennis moved back to Gorin in September 2010 after Diane passed away.

Dennis accepted Christ as his savior at a very young age and was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He enjoyed being with his family, taking walks, and listening to his music.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Diane; his grandparents, Fred and Edna Peterson and Roy and Louise Boyd.

Dennis is survived by his parents, Samuel Peterson of Gorin and Dorothy Boyd of Memphis; his sons, Justin of Novinger, Dennis Jr. of Columbia, and Christopher Peterson of Kirksville; step children, Tyshaynna, Harvey, Edith, and Carey; sisters Debra and husband Paul Briggs and Arveta Peterson, both of Memphis; brothers, Allen and wife Melody Peterson of Gorin, Carroll Peterson of Gorin and James Peterson of Kirksville; 15 grandchildren, and numerous other family members.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 27 at the Gorin Baptist Church with Pastor Leland Oliver officiating. Special music was provided by Jackie Doubet, Beverly Givens, and Helen Bissell. Pallbearers were Dennis Peterson, Jr., Justin Peterson, James Peterson, Billy Watkins, Chris Briggs, and Joe Doubet. Honorary bearers were Adam McKim, Paul Briggs, Bradley Thomas, Ben Peterson, Kevin Clinkenbeard, and Dakota Peterson. Burial was in the Gorin Cemetery , Gorin, MO.
