BARBARA L. GIBBONS

Barbara Lee (Baskett) Gibbons, age 74, of Edina, Missouri died Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at her residence in Edina, Missouri. She was born on March 21, 1937 in Knox County, Missouri the daughter of Charles Edmand and Vera Lee (Boone) Baskett. On February 11, 1956 in Edina, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Charles Robert Gibbons.


Mrs. Gibbons was preceded in death by a daughter, Angela Marie Gibbons, and her parents, Charles and Vera Baskett. Surviving are her husband, Charles Robert Gibbons, and eight children, Charlene Elaine Strickler and her husband David of Edina, MO; Carolyn Lee Gibbons of Columbia, MO; Catherine Ann Hettinger and her husband Sidney of Edina, MO; Robert Charles Gibbons and his wife Lisa of Glastonbury, CT; Richard Patrick Gibbons and his wife Heather of Shrewsbury, MA; Roger Michael Gibbons and his wife Donna of Lake Ozark, MO; Russell James Gibbons and fiancé Lori Benigar of Lee’s Summit, MO; Crissi Patricia McClain and her husband Greg of Springfield, MO; six sisters, Charlotte Ann Brown (husband, Edward P., deceased) of Lenexa, KS; Norma Jean Dodds (husband, James Michael, deceased) of Springfield, MO; Elinor Faye Hayes and husband Jerry of Columbia, MO; Linda Elizabeth Foulke of Overland Park, KS; Mary Constance Mayer and husband Craig of Hurdland, MO; twelve grandchildren, Christopher Lane Hettinger and wife Michelle of Novelty, MO; Nicholas Charles Hettinger stationed in Kandahar, Afghanistan; Ann Elizabeth Hettinger of Memphis, MO; Samantha Marie Gibbons of Ithaca, NY; Charles Robert Gibbons and Angela Mary Gibbons of Glastonbury; Boone Patrick Gibbons, Holly Marie Gibbons and Gracie Leigh Gibbons of Shrewsbury, MA; Travis Jason McClain of Springfield, MO; Michael David McClain of St Louis, MO; Morgan Gibbons McClain of Springfield, MO; two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.


Mrs. Gibbons received her education at St. Joseph School and graduated from Edina High School in 1955. After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Gibbons moved to Colorado and then later to California where they resided for seven years. In 1964, they returned to Edina where they owned and operated a plumbing business for 35 years and were also engaged in farming. Mrs. Gibbons later worked as a deputy collector in the Knox County Collector’s Office for a number of years.


Mrs. Gibbons was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edina and served on the Parish Council. She was a member of the St. Ann’s Altar Society and also taught CCD classes for a number of years.


Mrs. Gibbons enjoyed working in her yard and garden. She was a devoted wife and mother and enjoyed spending time with her family.


A rosary service was held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 8, 2011 at the Doss Funeral Home in Edina, MO following a visitation.


A Mass and Christian burial was held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edina. The Reverend Father Bill Kottenstette and Reverend Father Joseph Hoi officiated the services. Music was provided by Nancy Reardon, Jim Clark, Kyle Clark, David Strickler, and Brent Karhoff. Burial was in the St. Joseph Cemetery in Edina. Casket bearers were her sons and sons-in-law, Robert Gibbons, Richard Gibbons, Roger Gibbons, Russell Gibbons, David Strickler and Gregory McClain. Honorary casket bearers were her grandchildren.
