JEAN KIGAR
Jean Kigar, age 78, of Edina, MO, died September 25, 2011, at LaBelle Manor in LaBelle, MO.
Jean was born on October 30, 1933, near Novelty, MO the daughter of Minerva Elzona Heimer. She attended School at Novelty and Edina, MO. After School she moved to Keokuk, IA, where she worked at the Iowa Ordinance Plant, making ammunition for the government. After moving back to Edina She worked at the “Coffee Cup Café” and served food in many of the restaurants around Edina. She worked as a Dental Assistant for “Dr. Hatfield” and was an Avon Representative for many years. On February 14, 1964, she married Jack Kigar and she assisted Jack with his Lime Hauling business and soon they expanded out farming for McSorley Farms and themselves, with Jean serving as the bookkeeper for both. They also raised Black Angus Cattle for many years near Edina. After Jack’s death, she worked at Midge Shephards Greenhouse in Edina and for the last twenty years she has worked at the Knox County Public Library, serving the people of Knox County, until she became ill.
Jean was an avid baseball and football fan, following the seasons and impressing all with her knowledge of all current statistics. She loved growing and caring for her flowers and houseplants. She loved crocheting, sewing, assembling picture puzzles, and spoiling her grandchild and great nieces and nephews. Jean was a member of the Edina Assembly of God Church.
Jean is survived by her daughter, Karen Light of Bethel, MO, her son Terry Kigar, of Siminole, TX, one granddaughter, Angie Hayes and her husband Mike, of Knox City, MO, nephews Raymond Gilbert of Edina, MO, John Gilbert and wife Michelle of Knox City, MO, a niece Sharon Eichelberger and husband Ron of Alpine, AZ, three great nieces, one great nephew and ten great-great nieces and nephews.
Jean was preceded in death by her mother Minerva Elzona Heimer, one daughter Donna Jean McCollech, her mother and father-in-law Iva and Cordie Kigar, two brothers-in-law, Larry and Richard Kigar, her husband Jack Kigar, her sister Evelyn Dent and her nephew Denver Gilbert.
Funeral services were held 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 28, 2011, at Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO. Officiating the services was Evangelist Al Hamilton. Burial was in the Bible Grove Christian Church Cemetery. Casket bearers were Bill Light, Rayden Gilbert, Tony Hildy, Al Hildy, John Gilbert, and Raymond Gilbert.
