Marilyn Ann Gravitt

Marilyn Ann Gravitt, age 70 of Edina, Missouri died Wednesday afternoon, January 23, 2013 at her home in Edina.

On May 25, 1942 in Novelty, MO she was born to Arthur Vernon and Frances Virginia Pitzer Garnett.  On January 6, 1964 in Quincy, IL she was united in marriage to William “Bill” Lee Gravitt and they recently celebrated forty-nine years together.

Surviving are her husband, Bill of Edina, MO; two daughters, Tina Gravitt of Yellville, AR and Tonya Leapley of Liberty, IL; four step-children, Terry Welch and Fonda Gerber both of KS and Acey Welch and Winona Welch both of AR; three grandchildren, Zachary Leapley, Megan Leapley and Jamie Mansperger; one sister Leta Dodd of Quincy, IL; nieces and nephews, Kevin Woodward, David Woodward and Kay Dodd; two special great nieces, Kristina Ferguson and Kaitlyn Dodd and a special great nephew, Tim Monetti.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Frances L. Garnett and two brothers, Virgil Ray Garnett and Richard Vernon Garnett and one son, Alan in infancy.

Marilyn was a graduate of the Edina High School and then completed CNA training.  While working at Dixie Cream Donuts in Quincy, she met Bill and they were united in marriage.  For twenty-three years Marilyn was employed in housekeeping at Blessing Hospital in Quincy. Later they moved to Lead Hill, AR where she was employed as a CNA at the Twin Lakes Nursing Home and the Marion County Nursing Home.  In 2011 after her retirement they moved to Edina where they have been residing.

She was a member of the Blessing Ten Year Plus Club, the Lead Hill Christian Church in Lead Hill, AR where she had served as the church secretary for ten years and was an active member of the ladies church group.  Since living in Edina, Marilyn has attended the First Baptist Church.  Her hobbies included quilting, traveling with her husband on day trips and especially enjoying family time.

Funeral services were held 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 28, 2013 at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO with Reverend John Bode officiating. Burial was in the Novelty Cemetery at Novelty, MO.  Casketbearers were Kevin Woodward, Zachary Leapley, Tim Monetti, Leon Blake, Mike Kite and Russell Phillips.  Honorary bearers were David Woodward and Tina Gravitt.
