Kahoka Cable Rates Going Up

Kahoka cable rates will increase by $1.00 per month starting with the October billing.  The new rates for basic cable will be $35 per month, or $33.50 for seniors.  The Kahoka Board of Aldermen approved the increase at their Monday, Sept. 9 meeting.

“The public needs to realize that the channel cost increases for us.  We’ve been paying more,” said Alderman Larry Young.

The council also reported that a digital TV signal is available, and customer should re-scan for the signal.  If their TV does not recognize it, there is nothing the city can do about it at this time.

The board heard a proposal from Hailey Davidson of the Clark County Health Dept.  They are willing to use the third year MFH grant money to replace the sidewalks in Kahoka’s City Park, and install a 58×38 slab north of the bandstand for a basketball court and picnic tables.  They ask that the city would purchase a large piece of playground equipment, remove the monkey bars and slide, and removed several dead trees.

The board asked for a more formal proposal to consider at its next meeting.

In other business, the council:

-Approved a request from the Kahoka/Clark County Chamber of Commerce to block several streets for the Old Settlers celebration and the Trunk or Treat event at Halloween.

-Accepted Pool Manager Jonie Kirchner’s final report of the season.

-Approved building permits for KPF, Wayne & Vicki Gutting, Ray O’Bryant and Mike & Sue Scott.

-Approved a change order which reduced Washington Drive’s final cost to $116,837.16.  Other questions need to be answered before the street is formally accepted and payment made.

-Discussed the removal of several dead trees from city right of way.

-Discussed the need to repair or replace the white city  flatbed truck.

-Fire Chief Lary Fountain reported a hydrant is broken near KPF.

-Re-appointed April Wilson as City Attorney, and discussed concerns about the proposed insurance settlement.

-Alderman Greg Sutterfield reported complaints about cars park on sidewalks.  The police will watch for them.

-Alderman Larry Young reported that there are places where weeds need to be cut, and asked how long a trailer can be parked on the street.

-Discussed repairs at the street shed.
