Senior Tax On April Ballot

The Clark County Senior Center, along with other senior organizations, could get help if voters approve adding a five cent per $100 assessed valuation tax.  The issue will be placed on the April 8 ballot.

Last year, voters overwhelmingly approved a five cent tax to help the Clark County Council On Aging, better known as the Senior Center, but that vote was not certified because it was incorrectly placed on the ballot.

On January 7, 2014, the Clark County Commissioners approved request from CCCOA board member Jerry Redding  to add a five cent per $100 assessed valuation property tax for the purpose of providing services to persons sixty years and older.

“This would just not be the Senior Center’s money,” explained Clark County Clerk Leih Ann Hayden.

The county would set up a fund, which any senior service organization could apply for funding through the county.

In other recent actions, the commissioners rejected a bid for diesel fuel from MFA Oil, as the bid was not submitted as requested.

The commissioners received and reviewed quotes for rock from six vendors.  Prices for each size rock can be viewed with this story online at www.nemonews.net.

The courthouse construction warranty is to expire on January 31, and the commissioner met with Mike Whiston to discuss issues to be completed.  The water supply line will be replaced with copper pipe as soon as the weather allows, and cracked floor tiles will be replaced this month.

The commissioners also gave notice to all courthouse offices that employees could only park in the parking lot for 15 minutes, due to a number of complaints from the public.  Additional paved parking is planned for this summer.
