Darlene Mayes

Darlene Mayes, age 86, of Shelbina, MO, died Sunday, March 2, 2014, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, MO.

She was born on March 14, 1927, in Shelbina, MO, the daughter of Harry Lee and Lillian Dee Ramsey Goodnight. On October 24, 1946 she was united in marriage to Kenneth Mayes at Chapel of the Roses in Chula Vista, CA. He preceded her in death on October 8, 2011.

Darlene is survived by four children, Kenny Mayes and wife, Jo, of Liberty, MO, Donnie Mayes and wife, Cheryl, of Edina, MO, Julia Ridge and husband, Ron, of Hartselle, Al and Bill Mayes and wife, Susan, of Lentner, MO; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Robinson and Anthony Mayes of Kansas City, MO, Jill Arnold of Hannibal, MO, Jeffrey Mayes of Ewing, MO, Kristen Marquette and Kirby Ridge of Hartsello, Al, Erin Roberts of Shelbina, MO, and Ryan Mayes of Lentner, MO, and ten great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one great-grandson.

Darlene was a graduate of Shelbina High School and a member of the Shelbina Christian Church. She loved her life as a homemaker and raising her family. She was an avid South Shelby sports fan, especially when her grandchildren were playing.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, March 6, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina, MO, with burial following in Shelbina Cemetery.
