Don Lavern Woodward
Don Lavern Woodward, age 84 of Edina, MO died Thursday, February 27, 2014, in the Northeast Regional medical Center in Kirksville, MO.
He was born October 10, 1929, in Mayday, KS the son of John Henry and Vesta R. Shugart Woodward.
He was united in marriage to Phyllis L. Ferrell on August 30, 1947, at Kirksville, MO and she preceded him in death on August 14, 2013. Don was also preceded in death by his parents and one son Mickey Lynn Woodward on September 22, 2007.
Surviving are one daughter Donita Carroll and husband Donald of South Bend, IN, three daughters-in-law Helena “Ellie” Woodward of Edina, MO, Sharon Culler of Edina, MO and Vickie Lanning of Springfield, MO, one brother John Leonard Woodward and wife Carol of Newburg, IN, one sister Rowena Dahler of Springdale, AR, a sister-in-law Sarah Jensen of Streator, IL, seven grandchildren, Carrie, Amy, Jeff, David, Sarah, Rachel and Robert, thirteen great grandchildren, Alec, Maggie, Zoe, Kaitlynne, Tyler, Conner, Addison, Ashley, Caleb, Jonas, Mackenzie, Owen and Levi and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Don received his education in Edina where he graduated from High School. He attended two years at Northeast MO State Teachers College now (Truman State University) in Kirksville, MO.
Don and his wife Phyllis resided in Edina all their life. Don was a well known business man. He was manager at J. Burdman Auto Parts for several years and part owner of the Farm & Home Stores at Kirksville, Memphis and Edina, MO. He also was a vice-president at First American Security Insurance in Clayton, MO for a number of years.
Don was an active member of the First Christian Church in Edina and had served as deacon, elder and president of the board. Don was also an active member of the Edina Lodge # 291 A.F. & A.M. and had served several years as Worshipful Master. Don was active at the Knox County Nutrition Site and the Knox County Food Cupboard.
Don loved bowling, collecting marbles, lending a helping hand to all who were in need and spending time with his family and friends.
Funeral services were held 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO. Pastor Don Carroll officiated at the services. Burial was in Park View Memorial Gardens in Kirksville, MO.
Casket bearers were family members. Honorary bearers were members of Edina Masonic Lodge # 291 and the men of the First Christian Church of Edina.
Masonic services were held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 3, 2014 at the funeral home conducted by Edina Lodge # 291 A.F. & A.M.
