Congressman Sam Graves Holds Town Hall Meeting At Culver Stockton College

On Wednesday, August 20, 2014, U.S. 6th District Congressman Sam Graves (R-MO) held a town-hall style meeting at Culver Stockton College in Canton.

Rep. Graves is the Chairman of the House Committee on Small Business.
During his visit, Graves gave a brief address to attendees, which focused on the price small businesses are paying due to over regulations. Rep. Graves highlighted a new rule being backed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Army Corps of Engineers called “Waters of the U.S.” which would bring small streams, ditches, ponds and other isolated waters under the same strict rules that govern navigable waters in the U.S.

“It did not pass Congress so they’re coming back and they’re doing it anyway through this new rule called Waters of the U.S. We have a serious problem with an over reach,” said Rep. Graves. “I pick on the EPA because they are the worst, like regulating wood burning stoves. In rural Missouri a lot of people use it as their primary heat or at least their secondary heat. Regulating and trying to eliminate wood burning stoves because of the carbon it puts in the air is just wrong.”

Graves also addressed the nation’s growing debt, noting the deficit was $486 billion dollars in President Bush’s final year, and $1.5 trillion in President Obama’s first year.

“It’s a spending problem we have in Washington,” Graves said. “Federal government revenues grow every year.”
