Knox County Corn Festival Schedule and Carnival Information

By Echo Menges
The members of the Knox County Promotional Council have been hard a work shoring up plans for this year’s Corn Festival over the last several weeks. The group has been meeting weekly to get ready. This year Corn Fest is scheduled to last from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon, September 5-7, 2014.
Some of the hardest attractions to arrange are the carnival rides, which have reappeared at the celebration over the last two years. Each year a different company has been contracted and each year new challenges have surfaced in the planning process.
This year a carnival has again been arranged, which is hoped to bring the largest number of carnival rides to the event since 2012. Up to 13 carnival rides could be featured at this year’s festival, according to KCPC board member Jeff Doss.
Carnival Armbands are available and can be purchased at a discounted price before Corn Fest from any KCPC member. Armbands will be available for four different sessions over Corn Fest weekend, Friday evening, Saturday afternoon, Saturday evening and Sunday. They are $15 in advance and $20 at the carnival.
KCPC members include Jeff Doss, Sharon Hettinger, Bert Oberdahlhoff, Carla Oberdahlhoff, Kim Barnard, Regana Leckbee, Janis Browning, Rhonda Cardwell and Brenda Overstreet.
Other attractions of note this year include the popular Bucking Bull Saloon mechanical bull, the Beer Garden, the annual Corn Fest Parade, Quilt Show, Car Show, Tractor Show, Bingo, Pedal Tractor Pull, Youth Dance, Street Dance, BMX Stunt Riders, Cow Chip Bingo, Fire Hose Tug-of-War and more.
Some new attractions to this year’s event are the Pine Wood Derby and Texas Hold ‘Em Tournament.
