NWS Issues Flash Flood Warnings For Knox, Adair and Macon Counties
The National Weather Service in St. Louis has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Knox County. The warning went into effect at 11:54 pm Tuesday, September 9, 2014, and will remain in effect until 6:00 am Wednesday, September 10, 2014.
According to the warning issued for Knox County, Doppler radar has indicated that slow moving thunder storms with very heavy rainfall is moving across the warned area and hourly rainfall rates in excess of two inches are expected, which will lead to flash flooding across Knox County.
Runoff from this excessive rainfall will cause flash flooding to occur. Some locations that will experience flooding include Edina, Colony, Greensburg, Knox City and Plevna.

A flash flood warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring.
Flash Flood Warnings have also been issued for the southern Adair County and northern Macon County until 5:00 am.
Flash Flood Safety Tips
*Turn Around Don’t Drown – Do not attempt to drive or walk across a flooded road or low water crossing. You cannot be sure of the depth of the water or the condition of the roadway. The road might be washed out. Turn around and go back the way you came.
*Two feet of moving water will carry away most vehicles.
*Six inches of fast moving water can knock you off your feet.
*If your vehicle is suddenly caught in fast moving water, leave it immediately and get to higher ground.
*Be especially vigilant at night when flash floods are harder to recognize.
