Pauline Joy (Stevenson) Childress

Mrs. Pauline Joy (Stevenson) Childress, of Durham, Missouri, died Thursday, November 20, 2014, in Country Aire Retirement Estates at the age 82.

Born on April 4, 1932, in Bonaparte, Iowa, Pauline was the daughter of Paul and Florence Stevenson.  She was a dedicated member of Durham United Methodist Church.

Pauline Joy Stevenson united in marriage with Austin Herbert Childress on August 6, 1950.  The couple was married for forty-two years and he preceded her in death on April 1, 1993.  A stay at home mother for many years, Pauline followed her husband up and down the Mississippi River before finally settling in Durham, Missouri.

Pauline worked at Motorola until it closed and then worked for Harris Corporation.  Cooking, sewing, fishing and church work were the things she enjoyed and she loved watching her children and grandchildren play basketball.

Survived by five children, Joyce (John) Logan of Ewing, Dr. Herbert Eugene (Peggy) Childress Kitty (Kevin) Shults, and Veda Shults, all of Lewistown, and Pamela Kaylor of Quincy, Illinois; ten grandchildren, Beverly Ferrara, Jamie Logan, Samantha Logan, Chris Childress, Nathan Childress, Billie Jo Bryan, Felicia Shults, Brandy Shults Batzinger, Ethan Bowen, and Tyler Whitaker; 23 grandchildren; sister-in-law, Twila Stevenson of Arbela Missouri, and several nieces and nephews.

Her husband, parents, one grandchild, Jerad Childress, one great-grandchild, Kendall Smith Shults, one brother, Richard Stevenson and one sister Betty Stevenson Burcham preceded Pauline in death.

Services were held Monday, November 23, 2014 in Durham United Methodist Church with burial following in the Durham Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Durham United Methodist Church or the Durham Cemetery Association in care of Ball-Davis Funeral Home in Ewing, Missouri.
