(William) Leon Applegate
(William) Leon Applegate, 83, of Leonard, MO passed away on October 20, 2014 at the Siteman
Cancer Center at Barnes Jewish Hospital St. Louis, MO after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Applegate was born in Plevna, Missouri on March 22, 1931, the son of Floyd and Mattie Ellen (Vanzant) Applegate. He attended Rhoades School and graduated from Novelty High School. Afterwards, he continued to live on the family farm near Leonard for the duration of his life, engaged in farming, plumbing and electrical services and driving a school bus for many years.
A member and Deacon of the Mt. Salem Baptist Church for many years, Leon recently had been a member and Deacon of the Hurdland Baptist Church.
In June 1951, Mr. Applegate was wed to Mae (Shaver) Applegate who survives him. He is also survived by five children, Debbie (Jak) Young of Phoenix, AZ, Roger (Sallie) Applegate of Plevna, MO, Mike (Carol) Applegate of Huntsville, MO, Steve (Coral) Applegate of Hurdland, MO and Gary (Lisa) Applegate of Wellsburg IA; 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; his sisters-in-law, Margaret Parrish of Edina, Mo and Shirley James of Caddo, OK; brothers-in-law John Shaver of Hurdland, MO and Gene Howerton of Prosser, WA; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Applegate was preceded in death by his parents and two uncles, Arland Applegate and Myrl Applegate.
Leon enjoyed spending time with friends and family, farming and hunting.
Funeral services were held Friday, October 24 at the Hudson Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO with burial in the Mt Salem Cemetery near Newark MO., Rev Bob Shobe officiating. Visitation was held prior to the time of service in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina.
