MAX KAPFER

MAX KAPFER  Max A. Kapfer, 87 of Memphis, Missouri passed away early Tuesday morning on January 6, 2015 at Scotland County Hospital in Memphis, Missouri.
The son of Herbert and Abbie (Rice) Kapfer, Max was born on August 21, 1927, in Knox County, Missouri.
Max united in marriage with Hazel Lorraine Donaldson on September 4, 1949 and to this union five children were born, Stephen; Daniel; Naomi; Mark; and Joel.
Max was raised and lived most of his life in the Greensburg, Missouri area. He began farming with his father, Herbert, and brother, Earl. They grew row crops and raised livestock. After Herbert’s passing, Max and Earl continued farming near the Knox and Scotland County line.
During Max’s retirement years, he stayed very active. He owned and operated a fireworks stand near Baring, Missouri for nearly twenty years. He enjoyed visiting with everyone that stopped in whether to buy fireworks or not. Max took great pleasure in selling sweet corn and watermelon on the Memphis square. He looked forward to outings and visits with his dear friend, Buddy Couch.
A lifelong member of the Greensburg Baptist Church, Max was very active in the church. As a Sunday school teacher, he enjoyed sharing God’s word with local members.
Max was preceded in death by his parents, a son Daniel Kapfer, and daughter Naomi Kapfer Crowl, two brothers Marvin Kapfer and Earl Kapfer, two sisters Ruth Kapfer and Velma Adams, sister-in-law Roberta Kapfer and his brother-in-law, Stanley Adams.
Survivors include three sons: Stephen Kapfer of Baring, Missouri, Mark (Juvie) Kapfer, of Mesa, Arizona, and Joel (Sheri) Kapfer of Memphis, Missouri; ten grandchildren, Erin (Jeff) Taylor of Eustis, Florida, Brandi (Rom) Kapfer of Valley Park, Missouri, Casey (Mike) Langen of San Tan Valley, Arizona, Danielle (Derek) Tellez of Phoenix, Arizona, Paige (Delso) Merritt of Grand Island, New York, Tyrel Kapfer of  Gilbert, Arizona, Hannah Kapfer of Mesa, Arizona, Anna Domasing of Mesa, Arizona, Jarrett Kapfer of Mesa, Arizona, and Jacob Kapfer of Memphis, Missouri, eleven great-grandchildren, sister-in-laws:  Avis Kapfer of Boone, Iowa, and Lois Harris of Glendale, Arizona, a brother-in-law Charles (Wanda) Donaldson of Kirksville, Missouri, one son-in-law, Bryan Crowl of Baring, Missouri, and a host of many nieces, nephews, other family members along with many good friends.
Memorials in lieu of flowers are suggested to the Scotland County Nutrition Site or the Greensburg Cemetery Association and can be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison St., Memphis, Missouri 63555.

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 10, 2015, at 10:00 A.M. at the Payne Funeral Chapel in Memphis with Brother Jack Sumption officiating.  Interment followed in the Greensburg Cemetery in Knox county, Missouri.  Musicians were Angela Westhoff pianist and Alisa Kigar vocalist. Pallbearers were Jacob Kapfer, Ty Kapfer, Jarrett Kapfer, Mark Mallett, Bryan Crowl and Buddy Couch.

Arrangements were entrusted to the care of the Payne Funeral Chapel in Memphis.
