Russell Dale Snelling

Russell Dale Snelling, age 90, of Mt. Sterling, Illinois passed away at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at Heritage Health, Therapy and Senior Care in Mt. Sterling.

Born June 25, 1924, in the cellar of the family farm the day after the great cyclone in Knox County, Missouri, Russell Dale was the son of Elmer A. and Bessie N. Roseberry Snelling.

On May 23, 1953, Russell united in marriage with Donna M. Glasgow in Kirksville, Missouri.  Donna preceded Russell in death on December 16, 2007.

Mr. Snelling worked for Long Oliver Company in Mt. Sterling for a number of years and had also worked for the City of Mt. Sterling. He was also known as an excellent small engine repairman. He attended Knox County, Missouri schools and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include a son, Larry Dale Snelling and his wife, Laura of Quincy, Illinois; a granddaughter, Rachel Snelling of Versailles, Illinois; a sister, Lucille Guthrie of Rock Island, Illinois; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert Snelling.

Graveside services were held February 14, 2015 in the Pauline Cemetery in Rutledge, Missouri with Rev. Tim White officiating.  Memorials are suggested to Brown County Against Cancer.
