Ed Anderson of Edina Receives Veteran Service Award

JEFFERSON CITY — Missouri Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder on Wednesday presented Veterans Service Awards to 25 Missouri veterans who provide exemplary volunteer service to their communities.

 Winners were selected from around the state, and included Eddie Anderson of Edina.

 Anderson, a U.S. Army veteran, has for many years been a faithful volunteer at the Knox County R-1 School District, serving on its improvement committee, and with the Cyril A. Graham American Legion Post 261, where he coordinates military funeral honors. He also plans the annual Veterans Day commemoration at the schools and a community-wide dinner for veterans and their families.

 Anderson was nominated for the award by Missouri Rep. Craig Redmon of Canton. In his nomination, Redmon cited Anderson’s volunteerism and his military record.

 “As young men and women, when their nation called, all these winners answered that call, serving their country selflessly,” Kinder said. “Like many of Missouri’s veterans, they continued to serve their communities when they returned home after their military service, giving back to their neighbors through countless hours of volunteering.”

 All of the award winners received an official declaration from the lieutenant governor’s office recognizing their service.

 “All of these winners showed their sense of duty and patriotism when they served their nation,” Kinder said. “They continue to show that same commitment to service in their communities. This award is just one small way our state can say, ‘Thank you’ to our veterans and honor the sacrifices they continue to make for their communities and state.”
