Sherry Goudschaal Sherry Lee (Mauck) Goudschaal, age 77, of rural Clayton, Illinois passed away at 5:00 a.m. Thursday, April 2, 2015 at Golden Good Shepherd Home in Golden, Illinois.

Born August 5, 1937 in Kirksville, Missouri, Sherry was the daughter of Robert and Lelah Davis Mauck and grew up on their family farm near Knox City, Missouri.  Sherry united in marriage with Glenn Eugene Goudschaal on February 28, 1964, in Quincy, Illinois.  Glenn preceded her in death on November 19, 2011.

Mrs. Goudschaal was a very dedicated, loyal and hardworking employee for the Golden Good Shepherd in Golden, Illinois for 27 years, retiring in January of 2014 due to her illness.  Sherry felt she was very blessed with the opportunity of the many acquaintances, visiting with the residents and numerous long lasting friendships that she made while working at the home.  She very recently quoted to her family “it was an honor to work and serve the community through the Golden Good Shepherd Home”.  Mrs. Goudschaal was also a homemaker and assisted her husband with the operation of the family farm.  Earlier in life she worked as a secretary for Moorman Manufacturing in Quincy, where she enjoyed being a member of the company’s bowling league and has also worked for Doris Lehne Tax and Accounting in Mt. Sterling.

She attended Knox City Grade school and graduated from Knox City High School.  Sherry also attended North East Missouri State Teacher’s College in Kirksville.

Mrs. Goudschaal was a devoted member of the Poe Baptist Church in Brown County having served the church in many capacities.  Earlier in life, she attended and was baptized through the Knox City Christian Church.

Sherry was a member of the Pea Ridge Home Extension and served as Pea Ridge Township Clerk.   Her many friends knew her as a patriot and an avid republican party supporter.  She always enjoyed reading, playing the piano, traveling whenever possible, canning, gardening and she loved to cook family dinners.

A devoted and loving wife, mother, mother-in-law and grandmother, Sherry always enjoyed attending all of her children’s and granddaughter’s many activities.    One of her greatest joys was to spend time with her granddaughter’s and loved to stop in to visit with them, even if she could only stay a little while.

Survivors include three children, Glenda (Rodney) Lewis of Quincy, Illinois, Gerry Goudschaal of Clayton, Illinois and Julie (Brian) Houston of Mt. Sterling, Illinois; three granddaughters, Jessica and Shannon Lewis, both of Quincy, Illinois, and Siera Houston, of Mt.
