Marvin Duane Brotherton, age 68, of West Point, IA, died Sunday, April 5, 2015 at Fort Madison Community Hospital in Fort Madison, IA.

Marvin was born July 21, 1946 at Kahoka, MO, a son of Lloyd Curtis and Ella Marie Applegate Brotherton. He graduated from Kahoka High School in 1965.

He and Carolyn Sue Ward were married in 1966 and from this union three children were born: Michael Shawn, Scott Duane and Jennifer Sue. They divorced in 1987. On June 20, 1998 he was married to Glenna Jo Kruse Reusch at the Timber Lodge in Shannondale County, MO.

Survivors include his wife, Glenna, of the home; two sons,, Mike S. (Kathy) Brotherton of Coatsburg, IL and Scott D. (Lori) Brotherton of Rocky Point, NC; one daughter, Jennifer S. (Tony) Baker of Clinton, IL; a step-daughter, Delores May Reusch of Summerville, SC; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one brother, Paul (Ruth) Brotherton of Kahoka, MO; a sister, Karen Brotherton and her fiancé, Ron Valeu of Quincy, IL; brother-in-law, Rodney Hoskins of Fort Madison, IA; sister-in-law, Christine Brotherton of Argyle, IA; as well as nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers: Elmer, Alvin, Melvin, Hilbert, Luther, Leland “Gene” and Edmond; six sisters: Mildred Nichols, Maurine Hoskins, Gertrude Asher, Marilyn Frey, Margaret Lawson, and Mable Warren; sisters-in-law, Helen Brotherton, Vera Brotherton, and Irene Brotherton; brothers-in-law, Utah Warren, Floyd Nichols, George Bergman and Stanley Olson.

Marvin retired from the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant following 41 years of employment.

He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and going to flea markets and yard sales. He loved spending time at his summer home outside of Salem, MO, camping and working outside. He had a giving nature and was always attempting to give things to others to help them out.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Pastor Dwight Snead officiating. Special music was recordings “In the Garden” and “Go Rest High”.

Pallbearers were Mike Brotherton, Scott Brotherton, Kevin Hoeing, Keith Hoeing, Lloyd Brotherton and Ron Valeu.

Burial was in the Kahoka Cemetery.

Visitation was held at Wilson Funeral Home after 9 a.m. Tuesday with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m.
