Jesse Odell Rye, 84, of Revere, MO, died Monday, June 15, 2015 at Lexington Square in Keokuk.
He was born on September 3, 1930 in Keokuk, IA, the son of Theodore and Emma Irene Wilson Rye. On June 4, 1966, Jesse was united in marriage to Norma LeMaster in Keokuk. She survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Romona Tapaska of Waterloo, IA, Cynthia Erickson of Harlan, IA, one son, Theodore Kamstra of Iowa, one step-son, Ronald Norvall of Prairie Grove, AR, five grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, five step-great-grandchildren, one brother, Robert Overturf and his wife Linda of Malcomb, IA, one sister, Judy Jonson & husband Niel of Gold Canyon, AZ, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother, Luella Rye, one step-daughter, Tina Lucas, and two brothers, Dolphin Rye and Don Martin.
Jesse was a veteran of the United States Army and proudly served his country from 1947 – 1952.
Over the years he had farmed, worked for Best Construction and was a truck driver. He retired in 1995.
He was a member of the American Legion in Kahoka, MO.
Jesse enjoyed carpentry and working on projects around his home.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Pastor Shawn McAfee officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the Keokuk National Cemetery.
Visitation will be held prior to the service on Monday from 12-1 p.m. at the funeral home with family meeting with friends at that time.
