Dr. Jack Magruder Recognized at Hurdland Annual School Reunion

On Friday, July 3, 2015, some special guests attended Hurdland’s Annual School Reunion at the Hurdland Firehouse including Dr. Jack Macgruder, former teacher at the Hurdland School, and his wife Sue.

Dr. Magruder, who can be described as as a champion of education at every level, was honored by approximately 115 organizers and attendees of Hurdland’s Annual Reunion for his third retirement as an educator from the Moberly Area Community College after a lifetime of teaching, leading and inspiring Missouri’s educational institutions including Truman State University, A.T. Still University, the ATSU Dental School and Moberly Area Community College.

After six decades of educating Missouri students he has come full circle. His first teaching job was in Hurdland. Several of his Hurdland students were in attendance at the reunion.

Dr. Magruder was presented with a resolution in honor of his lifelong mission to educate students from the Missouri House of Representatives by State Rep. Nate Walker during the reunion. He spoke following the honor.

We have included a video of the presentation and of Dr. Magruder’s remarks. At the end of the presentation Larry Sykes, co-organizer of the event, made a special mention of another well known Knox County educator, Lawrence Schroeder, who stood and received a round of appreciative applause for his many years of service to education, Hurdland and Knox County.
