Rose M. Miller, age 87, of Memphis, MO, passed away on Friday, July 31, 2015 at the Scotland Co. Memorial Hospital in Memphis.
Rose was born January 23, 1928 at Keokuk, IA, a daughter of Walter and Marie Elizabeth Schmitt Ekle.
She and Harry Junior Miller were married September 20, 1945 at Keokuk, IA.
Survivors include four sons, Earl (Sherry) Miller of Edina, MO, Glen (Suzy) Miller of Memphis, MO, Wally (Crystal) Miller of Burlington, IA and Carl (Tina) Miller of Kirskville, MO; two daughters, Jean (Mrs. Tom) Myers of Memphis, MO and Marie “Mimi” (Mrs. Ron) Alexander of Memphis, MO; one brother, Robert (Marilyn) Ekle of Farmington, IA; sister-in-law, Dalene (Harve) Bergman of Memphis, MO; 39 grandchildren; 87 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Walter Ekle and Leroy Ekle; a sister, Janie Ihrig; and grandson, Eric Myers.
Rose was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Memphis and member and director of the JOY Group. Rose had a very positive outlook on life and never complained, being content in any circumstance. She enjoyed sharing her baking, garden produce, and the many crocheted items she made. She loved playing games, especially rummikub and yahtzee with her family.
Rose wore many hats. She was a full time farm wife/bookkeeper and homemaker. Following Harry’s death, she spent the next eight years keeping books at M & O Concrete, making it a four generation team.
Rose had a special touch that seemed to make everything bloom around her. Her positive outlook on life, her contentment and her example of never complaining made her so very special to her family and friends. Harry was the driving force in the family and Rose was the rock. Nothing made her any happier than having her family gather at “Dad’s Shed”.
Funeral services were held Friday, August 7, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Pastor Dan Hite and Pastor Harry Miller officiating. Special Music was provided by Jean Myers, pianist. Vocalists were Beth Penner and Amber Miller, with selection “In the Garden”. Congregational hymns were “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Victory in Jesus”.
Pallbearers were Clint Miller, Chad Ebeling, Angie Tipling, Matt Miller and Jennifer Gibson.
Burial was in the Frazee Cemetery, rural Alexandria, MO.
Visitation was held at Wilson Funeral Home after 9 a.m. Thursday with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m.
Memorials in lieu of flowers were suggested to JOY Group of the First Baptist Church in Memphis, or Camp Leeper.
