Raising Money For a Friend and Co-worker With Cancer – VIDEO

On Tuesday, August 26, 2015, employees of Hawkins Harrison Insurance in Edina served lunch to passing motorists to raise money for a co-worker and friend, Janie Gibbons of Edina.

The businesses parking lot was turned into a temporary drive-through food pick-up and “Team Janie” wore purple shirts and served pulled pork sandwiches, chips, cookies and drinks to hungry supporters.

The fundraiser was so popular Team Janie ran completely out of meat just one hour after opening. It was a success.

Janie GibbonsAccording to Kyane Marble, Commercial Account Manager at the company, the fundraiser was an extension of an upcoming benefit fundraiser for Janie at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Sunday, September 27, 2015. “We want to raise money to help Janie pay for the extra expenses that go along with fighting cancer,” said Marble.

According to Monica Zahn, who is helping to promote the upcoming event, the benefit will include a meal beginning at 11:00 a.m., followed by a silent auction and a live auction, Corn Hole Tournament with the day finishing out with music by One Horse Town.

Janie is faced with the cost of gas to and from treatments and doctor appointments, insurance deductibles and copays, and the expense of treatment elsewhere in Missouri and far beyond.

Janie was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer earlier this year. She is seeking treatment elsewhere in and out of Missouri. A “Go Fund Me” account has also been set up online under Janie Gibbons with a goal to raise $10,000. So far over $4,000 has been collected online.
