FLORINE FORRESTER

Hazel Florine (Garrett) Forrester, age 99, of Memphis, Missouri, passed away September 25, 2015, at Scotland County Hospital in Memphis.
Born January 11, 1916, in Scotland County, Missouri, Florine was the daughter of Ozro Clyde and Hazel Aleyne (Sweeney) Garrett. She had one younger sister, Clarice Louise (Mrs. L. Paul Burns).
Florine (Garrett) Forrester attended Jayne Grade School, Oak Ridge Grade School, and graduated from the 8th grade at White Grade School. She worked in various businesses in Memphis, including the movie theatre, a grocery store, the hospital and for several years owned and managed Forrester’s Paint and Wallpaper, which was located on the town square. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed providing friends and relatives with home-canned fruits, jams, jellies and homemade cookies. Florine also found great joy in crocheting snowflakes and sending them to friends and family in their annual Christmas card. She was a lifetime member of the Scotland County Historical Society and enjoyed serving as a volunteer at the Downing House Museum Complex. She was also a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club.
Florine was baptized into Christ and became a member of the Antioch Church at an early age. She later transferred her membership to the First Christian Church in Memphis.
On April 14, 1937, Florine united in marriage with Francis Herman Forrester, the son of William Albert and Nellie Lee (Childers) Forrester.
She is survived by her son, Sterling Dean Forrester and his wife, Katherine Elaine (Ewing) Forrester, of Memphis; two granddaughters: Angela Lee (Forrester) Westhoff and her husband, Scott William Westhoff, of Memphis and Alisa Renee (Forrester) Kigar and her husband, James Lee Kigar, of Bible Grove, Missouri; four great-grandchildren: Megan Renee (Westhoff) Hamilton and her husband, Kenneth James Hamilton, of Maryville, Missouri; Shelby Ann Westhoff of Edina, Missouri; Eli Richard Kigar and Elsie Elaine Kigar, both of Bible Grove; two great-great-grandchildren: Harper Madelynn Hamilton and Hinton Scott Hamilton of Maryville; a niece, Janet Kay (Burns) Hamilton, of Memphis and a sister-in-law, Bernice Forrester, of Tucson, Arizona. Other survivors include a special caregiver, Michael Cantril, who took her on many pleasant rides in his jeep and a host of nieces and nephews.
Florine was preceded in death by her husband in 1985; a sister, Clarice Burns and a nephew, David Allen Burns.
Services were held Monday, September 28, 2015 in the First Christian Church of Memphis, Missouri, with burial following in Memphis Cemetery.
