Blessing Nurse Receives International DAISY Award

Davin Acklie, RN, Blessed Beginnings: The Birth Center of Blessing Hospital, received the DAISY Award for November 2015. The international DAISY Award program provides a way for patients or their family members, visitors, doctors, hospital staff members and volunteers to recognize the extraordinary care provided by nurses.
Davin was honored for the care she provided to the mother of a stillborn infant, by the patient’s mother and sister.

In her DAISY award nomination of Davin, the patient’s mother wrote: “Davin cried with us, answered every question with empathy and kindness and conducted herself with confidence…She gave us as much time as we needed to hold Adriauana Rose and helped us take photos, prepared a Memory Box, and felt the loss along with us…I am so grateful to Davin for being the feet on the ground, making our stay a quiet miracle of God. We experienced great care and awe-inspiring nursing.”

Davin experienced the stillbirth of her own child, leading the patient’s sister to write in her nomination: “I asked her, ‘how do you do it?’ She said that this was her way of healing, of making sense of her loss…Davin’s loss will never be in vain. She is exactly where God needs her to be, honoring her ‘sleeping baby’ daily by the care she gives. The impact she has on lives is on hat is lasting. I will personally never forget her.
Davin is an eight year member of the Blessed Hospital nursing staff. She lives in Kahoka, MO, with her husband, Jason, and children Allison, Isiabell and Ian.

Davin received a certificate, DAISY Award recipient pin, hand-carved stone sculpture entitle “A Healer’s Touch” sculpted in Africa specifically for the DAISY Award recipients, and a banner to display in a prominent area of her nursing unit in addition to other items.

DAISY stands for “Diseases Attacking the Immune System.” The family a 33-year old man who died of an immune system disorder began the program in 1999 to honor his memory by recognizing extraordinary nurses everywhere who make a difference in the lives of people by the work they do every day. There are more than 1,900 healthcare providers worldwide who participate in the DAISY Award program.
