Virgil E. Carlin, age 83, of Durham, MO passed away Monday, February 15, 2016 at Country Aire Retirement Estates in Lewistown, MO.
He was born August 1, 1932 in Williamstown, MO a son of Ray and Waneta Forquer Carlin. He married Rosemary Carlin on December 30, 1978 in Memphis, MO. She died July 20, 2010.
Virgil loved to play with his dog Tikki and garden. He was also an avid reader and liked to whittle. Virgil was always there to lend a helping hand to all of his neighbors. He was a jack of all trades and could fix anything. Virgil was the neighborhood handyman and always carried a pair of pliers. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War. He was a Tug Boat Pilot and Truck Driver for many years. He was also a member and past commander of the American Legion Post #37 of Quincy, IL.
Survivors include his children, Roger Pruitt of Ferguson, MO, Denise Sparks of Durham, Tammy (Steve Hudnut) Willing of Durham, Gene Hickman of Durham, Rose and Carl Trueblood of Memphis, MO, Kevin and Roxanne Carlin of Canton, Pam and Roy Morss of Farmington, IA, Robert and Tammy Carlin of La Grange, Waneva Marriott of Maryville, MO; two brothers, Larry (Arlene) Carlin of Kahoka, MO and John (Brenda) Carlin of Hannibal, MO; numerous grandchildren including Casi (Adam) Kethart Heather (David) Mitchell, Ashley Pruitt, Mathew Pruitt, Amanda (Eddie) Helton, Dustin Chatfield, Tabitha Sparks, Kelsey Sparks, Adam Hickman, Leerona Willing, Cassie Hudnut, also several great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rosemary; son, Lonnie Carlin; two sisters, Wilma Smith and Ilene Stewart and one brother Clarence Carlin.
Graveside services and Military Honors will be held Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Durham Cemetery in Durham, MO with Rev. Elmer Hagood officiating. There will not be any visitation but friends are invited to the committal services.
The family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
