Daniel Smith has recently joined the Kahoka Police Department as a full time Deputy beginning Tuesday, April 19th. Officer Smith lives in Kahoka and is originally from the St. Louis area. Smith has lived in Kahoka for a little over a month.
He served three years in the military and besides that experience, also served on the Vandalia Police Department.
When asked why he choose law enforcement as a career, Smith replied, “While I was in the military and starting to think about getting out and possible careers, I choose law enforcement for a couple reasons. I enjoy working with and helping the public, but I also am a person who likes to be doing something and not tied down to the same thing every day. In law enforcement, rarely are two days ever alike, there is also something different and there is always the potential for the next call to be another challenge.”
“I had been working at the Fort Madison prison as well as working part time as a Kahoka Police Officer. My fiancé is also on the LaGrange Police Department”, he added.
